Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari ordered the IRGC units in flood-stricken provinces of Iran to fully employ their capabilities to provide relief aid to victims.

Speaking to the Tasnim news agency, IRGC’s Spokesman General Ramezan Sharif said the top commander has issued an order to provide relief aid for people in the crisis-hit areas or the regions that face the threat of flooding.

The order also allows the employment of equipment and forces of the IRGC Ground Force Airborne Unit and the IRGC Aerospace Division if more action will be required, Sharif explained.

The spokesman said the order has been given despite the fact that a major part of the IRGC units were engaged in a military drill in southeast of the country.

Flooding from days of heavy spring rainfall has inundated vast areas in the Provinces of Lorestan, Ilam, Kermanshah, Fars, Khuzestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Kurdistan in western and southwestern of Iran.

Dams in the southwestern regions have been pushed to their limits due to days of relentless rain, while flooding has cut off water supply and electricity to thousands.

While the menacing weather is expected to continue, the southwestern cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr are braced for heavy showers of rain and hail and flooding.
