Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has reshuffled the cabinet, appointing ten new ministers.

The Wednesday cabinet rejig includes Amr el-Garhy as finance minister, Dalia Khorshid as investment minister, Mohamed Hossam Abdelrahim for the Ministry of Justice, Galal Saeed for the Ministry of Transportation, and Sherif Fathy Attia as the minister of civil aviation.

Mohamed Abdel Aaty was sworn in at the helm of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, Khaled el-Anany for the Ministry of Antiquities, Mohamed Saafan for the Ministry of Labor, and Mohamed Yehia Rashed for the Ministry of Tourism.

During the cabinet meeting, the new Ministry of Public Sector Affairs was installed, where Ashraf Qadri al-Sharqawi was appointed as the minister.

There has been no official report on the reason for the rearrangement, but the reshuffle is said to reflect Egypt’s issues in its various sectors.

The most significant changes on Wednesday came in the ministries of finance, investment and water resources.

The replacement of investment and finance ministers by figures chosen from the private sector reflects the common belief that experienced people from the private sectors were better in order to save Egypt’s ailing economy.

The change of the water minister follows the lack of progress in negotiations between Egypt and Ethiopia over the construction of a massive dam on the Nile River by Ethiopia that will reduce Cairo’s share of the river’s water.

Most notably, Minister of Health Ahmed Emad el-Din stayed in power despite heavy criticism in past weeks due to conflicts with the Doctors Syndicate.
