Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s planned two-day visit to Austria has been called off for security reasons on Tuesday.

President Rouhani’s visit to Austria has been put off to a ‘more appropriate’ time by mutual agreement and in order to make further coordination.

According to a spokeswoman for Austrian President Heinz Fischer’s office, the visit has been postponed for ‘security reasons’.

“The visit for March 30-31 by President Hassan Rouhani and his delegation has been postponed by the Iranian side for security reasons,” it said in a statement, without giving further details.

Following the postponement, Austrian President issued a statement, saying “the quality of relations with Iran will not be affected by this postponement.”

The visit, which was planned on an official invitation from Fischer, would have been Rouhani’s second to to the European Union since last year’s nuclear deal and the lift of sanctions against Iran.

The two countries were expected to sign a number of MoUs and finalize a roadmap for strengthening economic cooperation.

No new date has yet been determined for Rouhani’s visit to Austria.
