IRGC Launches New Naval Zone

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) established a new Navy zone Sunday morning in a bid to boost defensive measures in waters surrounding Iran’s islands in the Persian Gulf.

The IRGC is in charge of safeguarding security in the Persian Gulf.

The IRGC’s fifth naval zone, namely Emam Mohammad Baqer (PBUH), was officially inaugurated in Iran’s Southern port city of Bandar Lengeh in Hormozgan province in a ceremony attended by IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari earlier this morning.

As regards the operation area of the zone, Commander of the IRGC Navy Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said that the fifth zone operations will cover an area from Qeshm island and Naze’aat Islands region to the western waters of the Kish island.

“The fifth naval zone was started to provide operational coverage for the Naze’aat Islands, bring about a turning point and start a new trend in the region,” Fadavi stated in the opening ceremony held in Bandar Lengeh.

He said now that the above-mentioned missions have been entrusted to the fifth zone, the IRGC first naval zone will only and specifically be tasked with maintaining security in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian military commanders have always reiterated Tehran’s commitment to the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and cautioned that foreign military presence will only undermine the security of the strategic waterway.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned the trans-regional states, specially the US, to pull their troops and warships out of the Persian Gulf.

Iranian officials have also frequently underlined the necessity for the establishment of security in the Persian Gulf through extensive and all-out cooperation among the regional states.
