IRGC pledges firm reply to terrorism in eastern border

356551_Mohammad-Ali-Ja’fariCommander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has pledged a crushing response by the IRGC to any attempts to disrupt the security of the country’s eastern border with Pakistan.

Major General Mohammad Ali Ja’fari made the remark while reviewing the preparedness of the IRGC units that have recently been assigned to provide security along Iran’s border with Pakistan.

The IRGC’s Qods Headquarters has been commissioned with providing border security along a 300-kilometer-long border area in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province following attacks against Iranian border guards in the area.

Ja’fari emphasized the importance of having an intelligence command as well as a protective umbrella in the border region as essential factors to firmly encounter any efforts to threaten the security of the region.

He reiterated that the violent and inhumane actions of the terrorist groups in the area were perpetrated with the support of foreigners as well as the Western and Zionist secret services.

On March 23, the Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group, which has claimed responsibility for the February 6 abduction of five Iranian border guards in Jakigour region in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province and their transfer to Pakistani territory, claimed that it had killed one of the hostages.

The terrorist group has reportedly threatened to kill a second border guard by April 2.

Reacting to the reported threat, the head of the IRGC’s Public Relations Office Brigadier General Ramazan Sharif on Saturday expressed hope that the terrorist group will be punished with a firm action.

He also dismissed a footage that purports to show the abduction of the Iranian border guards, saying that none of the Iranian security and intelligence agencies has verified the authenticity of the video footage.
