‘IRGC preparing for times of crisis’

A military official from Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps says the forces are holding maneuvers aimed at preparing the IRGC for times of crisis.

Mohsen Heidari, the deputy logistics head at IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, said several military exercises aimed at perfecting the forces’ logistical readiness in ‘times of crisis’ were underway, Fars News Agency reported on Sunday.

“We have tired [to enable] each region to be independent for itself and needless of the central command, because [our] strategy is based on having each region stand on its own feet and to meet its own needs at the time of crisis,” he noted.

Earlier in the year, the IRGC held a 10-day drill known as Great Prophet 6, unveiling underground silos protecting the country’s missiles, firing medium-range ballistic and surface-to-surface missiles, and operating a radar system.

Heidari also said the country had started mass-producing new generations of domestically-made air defense systems known as Mersad (Ambush) and Sayyad (Hunter) II.

Mersad is capable of hitting targets up to 150 kilometers away, while Sayyad II is comprised of two-stage missiles that can be used against all forms of aircraft at medium and high altitudes.

Iran has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
