IRGC to intensify anti-terrorism campaign

A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says the IRGC is planning to intensify its anti-terrorism campaign in the border areas.

The commander of IRGC Ground Forces, Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, stated on Monday that the military is preparing short-term and long-term plans to confront those behind a recent terror attack in Iran that left over 40 people dead, including several IRGC commanders.

Pakpour said the IRGC plans to pass intelligence to the authorities in neighboring countries to help them capture terrorists fleeing Iranian territory.

However, the IRGC commander added, “Due to the current security situation, the plans cannot be made public.”

“The IRGC has tracked them down” but the onus is on neighboring states to deal with the terrorists, he said.

The Pakistan-based Jundallah terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack carried out in Sistan-Baluchestan Province on October 18.

Jundallah, led by Abdolmalek Rigi, has staged a torrent of terrorist attacks in Iran.

In a recent interview with Press TV, Rigi’s brother, Abdulhamid, confirmed that the Jundallah leader had established links with US agents.

Abdulhamid Rigi said that at just one of his meetings with the US operatives, Abdolmalek Rigi had received $100,000 to foment sectarian strife in Iran.
