IRGC to Stage Various Wargames This Year

Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami announced that the IRGC plans to stage several wargames in different regions of the country in the current Iranian year (started on March 20).

“This (Iranian) year, the wargames of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps will be staged in various forms and by all combat units both in areas of their deployment and in the country’s border regions,” Salami said, speaking to reporters in Iran’s Southeastern city of Zahedan on Monday.

He further announced that the IRGC and the Iranian Army will hold joint military drills this year to display integrity and unity among the Iranian Armed Forces.

Last week, Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan announced that the IRGC plans to stage joint military drills to boost their defense and combat capabilities in the current Iranian year.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Pourdastan announced that his forces plan to hold 8 wargames in different fields, among them specialized airborne exercises and joint drills with the IRGC.

“The exercise will be held in the Southeastern or Southwestern borders of the country,” Pourdastan said, adding that the wargames will be at division level and the first joint exercise between the two military forces after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Iran’s Army and the IRGC hold regular wargames to practice combat tactics and also test new home-made military tools, equipment and weapons in action.

In relevant remarks on Sunday, Commander of the Army’s Western Operation Command General Amir Manouchehr Kazzemi told reporters that these wargames are among the most important deterrent factors against enemies’ threats.

In February, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jaffari stressed that the Iranian armed forces are strengthening the country’s deterrent power through military exercises.

Speaking to FNA on the sidelines of Valfajr military drills in Iran’s Central province of Yazd, the IRGC commander said, “The wargames came after the US threats and aggressions, specially its invasion of the neighboring and regional states.”

“In a bid to prevent such aggressions (against Iran) all trainings have been done and all experiences have been reviewed,” the commander stated at the time.
