Irish protesters rally against new austerity measures

Over ten thousand people have taken to the streets in the Irish capital, Dublin, to protest against government plans on new austerity measures.

The protesters from anti-tax campaigns, labor unions and community groups lashed out at the government of Prime Minister Enda Kenny for its plans to increase the tax and impose financial burdens on the citizens.
The demonstrators vowed defiance against the new austerity program.
On December 5, the Irish government is scheduled to unveil its sixth straight austerity budget, which is a further 3.5 billion euros in spending cuts and tax hikes.
Earlier, organizers of the rally said it would send a message to the government that it was not elected to impoverish the nation.
The Irish premier has pledged to impose annual measures as part of the austerity program until 2015 to curb a budget deficit.
Dublin was forced to call for an international bailout in 2010 due to the risk of national bankruptcy and after its ailing economy hurt five of its six banks.
The austerity measures so far have reduced average Irish pay by around 15 percent, while unemployment is at a record high of 14.8 percent.
