ISIS counter-attack in Deir Ezzor crushed by Syrian Army stand-off fire

After suffering a tactical reversal at the hands of an ISIS counter-attack in the area of Hamimah (west of the T-2 pumping station) earlier today, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) appears to have stabilized its lines and crushed the offensive momentum of the terrorist group’s pursing forces.

Recently, pro-government media published a video of the SAA targeting ISIS vehicles at the provincial border area between Homs and Deir Ezzor.

The event shown in the video appears to have taken place not long after an ISIS counter-attack pushed the SAA to retreat from its forward-most positions near Hamimah. The footage was most likely shot from the main SAA defense line opposing ISIS forces in the region.

The footage shows the SAA engaging pursing Islamic State forces at extreme range with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) and tank fire. At least one direct by an ATGM on an ISIS Toyota pickup can be seen as well as an astonishing SAA tank shot that appears to take out another ISIS truck whilst it is moving.

Reports say that ISIS has since retreated back towards Hamimah, indicating that the SAA managed to successfully repel the terrorist group’s counter-attack.

Although it has not done so yet, the SAA may now attempt to push forward again in order to re-assume control of its forward positions near Hamimah.

Over the last several weeks, pro-government forces have been fluctuating to and fro across the provincial border between Homs and Deir Ezzor as they test the Islamic State’s defenses west of the T-2 area.
