ISIS’ days numbered in Anbar as Iraqi Army liberates six villages

Following the liberation of Al-Rumanah earlier in the day, the Iraqi Army and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) continued to push along the northern bank of the Euphrates River in the evening hours, seizing a further five villages in western Anbar.

According to a military source close to Al-Masdar News, government troops have wrestled control over the villages of Albu Faraj, Dughaymah, Albu ‘Abeed, Khutaylah and Albu Hardan after encountering minor ISIS resistance on Saturday.

Next on the agenda, the Iraqi Army hopes to reach and liberate the ISIS stronghold of Rawah which is one of few towns in the country still under Islamic State control.

Long a jihadist hotbed, the Iraqi Armed Forces are taking steps to gradually restore all of the predominately Sunni province of Anbar under government control. In addition to Rawah, ISIS still controls a large section of the northwestern border with Syria.
