ISIS launched a massive offensive that targeted the Syrian Government controlled districts of Al-Sina’a, Al-Rusafa and ‘Amal, which are all located along the vast Euphrates River.

ISIS began their assault at 9:30 A.M. (Damascus Time) on Wednesday morning when hundreds of their combatants stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) frontline defenses at the Al-Sina’a District’s eastern flank.

Initially, the terrorist group successfully infiltrated the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses; however, as they pushed deeper into the district, they found themselves outgunned and exposed to the Syrian Arab Army’s machine guns and rockets.

With only one outlet to retreat from the Al-Sina’a District, ISIS took the opportunity to withdraw to safer pastures, leaving behind much of their heavy armory and weaponry to the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF).

According to a military source from the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Brigade inside of Deir Ezzor City, ISIS suffered over 40 casualties during their failed assault on the Al-Sina’a District, including several foreign terrorists from Saudi Arabia, Chechnya, and Iraq.

In addition to the failed assault on Al-Sina’a, ISIS launched several failed attacks on Al-Rusafa, Al-‘Amal, and the Old Airport District.
