‘Islamic awakening proves US weakness’

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council says the recent developments in the region prove that the era of US dominance is coming to an end.

Saeed Jalili said the wave of popular unrest in the Arab world proves that the “will of nations” can overcome US dominance, according to a statement released by the Council on Wednesday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Nirupama Rao in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.

Jalili said the prolonged wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were an experience which will likely prevent the US from using force and occupation to further its objectives in the region.

The imposition of sanctions is yet another sign of US failure to impose its unlawful will against the Islamic Republic, the high-ranking Iranian official added.

Rao for her part hailed the historic ties between the two countries and said India’s independent stance is an important factor in the expansion of cooperation with the Islamic Republic.
