Islamic Awakening: Uprising against Al Saud will soon gain momentum

nushi20120708211823153A political analyst tells Press TV that that the wall of fear is coming down because of the continued protests in Saudi Arabia and we will see an increased protest movement in the country.

The comments came after Saudi security forces arrested over 300 people in the central province of Qassim after hundreds of Saudis staged a protest sit-in to demand the release of political prisoners. The protest gathering was held outside the investigation and prosecution bureau in the town of Buraidah on Friday.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Ali al-Ahmed, Director of the IGA, to further discuss the issue. What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: The situation seems to be getting more and more grim on the ground in Saudi Arabia. We are talking about at least three hundred people being arrested in Buraidah. Tell me your take on that. Does it mean that basically it is out of control now in Saudi Arabia? Do you think that it has reached the point of no return?

Al-Ahmed: It is going towards that point definitely. In fact the hundreds of people who have been arrested last night there was not enough space to house them in any prison so they were held in closed sporting hole in Buraidah and we have seen after the arrest of these hundreds a new protest has erupted in Buraidah as well.

Buraidah today is under military lockdown. Saudi security forces helicopters have basically taken over the city and yet we see dozens maybe hundreds of new protesters have gathered as well to protest the arrest of the last night’s.

We saw in Mecca and yesterday and today in the Eastern Province in Dammam the burning of the photo of the minister of the interior which is a new phenomenon in fact because it started in the east but moved to Buraidah few days ago and now we see the burning and desecration or defamation of the pictures of the state leaders being [burned] in public for the first time in these areas.

So we are seeing that wall of fear is coming down because of the continued protest and protest is happening this weekend on Sunday when John Kerry will be arriving. So you will see an increased protest movement in the country.

Press TV: Well you just mentioned John Kerry arriving. Let’s look at that aspect on the situation because as more and more people demonstrate also violence is increasing.

Are we likely to see the United States condemning the violence and the suppression that is taking place in Saudi Arabia against the people who basically want their democratic rights? Are we likely to see John Kerry making statements against what the government is doing and their crackdown?

Al-Ahmed: I doubt it that will happen but even if John Kerry who is, you know some say he is a fresh face in the American diplomacy, I do not think it will make any impact.

Right now the most important voice is the voices of the people on the ground in the country. The voices of John Kerry or Obama or other Western leaders is really not valuable. The time where the US and the West has capacity to influence things on the ground has really ended.

Now the voice, the impact is done by the people on the ground and maybe some regional powers but other than that the United States has lost a lot in terms of its support or lack of support of the people in the region. So they do not have that influence anymore. So their statements are unimportant. – See more at: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/03/02/291574/protest-movement-will-increase-in-ksa/#sthash.IYRFOnyU.dpuf
