Islamic Iran to hold conference on cyber defense

Iran will hold the first national conference on cyber defense, as a sign of the growing attention to cyberspace in the country.

Saeed Qazimaghrebi, scientific secretary of the conference, said on Wednesday that keynote speeches and papers written by cyberspace specialists will be presented in the conference on January 25-26, 2012.

“Due to high investment put into cyber defense in the world, this kind of defense has gained special position,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

He noted that the United States has developed a strategic document for 2016-2023 in which cyber threats have been equated with military threats.

Qazimaghrebi stated that papers and researches will be accepted to the conference from September 23 to October 7 and judgment will begin as soon as they are received.

The conference will be attended by representatives of executive and defense institutions and researchers.

Head of Iran’s Passive Defense Organization also said on Wednesday that Iran has developed a national operating system which is being used by the Defense Ministry.

“The operating system is currently used in the Defense Ministry, but its public use and commercialization would need support from the industrial sector,” Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali said.

The national operating system is aimed at preventing other systems from breaking into local networks to steal data from the systems in the country.
