Representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran Abu Sharif lashed out at the US for hatching plots to target the Muslim unity throughout the world.
“The US plots for the region is blowing a strike on the Muslim governments; unfortunately we are executing the American plots with our own hands,” Abu Sharif said, addressing a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday to mark the 67th anniversary of the Nakba (Catastrophe) Day.

He pointed to the colonial rule of France, Britain, the US and Zionism in the past and present as the main enemy of the Muslim world, and said, “The issue of Palestine can unite the Muslim world and we should move on the axis of Palestine because today the policy of strengthening Israel and creating differences among Muslim countries is being pursued.”

Abu Sharif referred to US failed occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, and said, after the US was forced to withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq it adopted the British policy of divide and rule.

Nakba day is a reference to the birth of Israel 67 years ago in British-mandate Palestine, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who were killed or driven out of their homes during the 1948 war over Israel’s creation.

Today there are more than 5 million Palestinian refugees worldwide. They are the descendants of the more than 700,000 Palestinians who were expelled from their homes by Jewish militias during the 1948 Nakba, or “catastrophe”.

Israeli regime continues to refuse to allow the refugees to return to their towns, despite UN resolution 194 mandating they be allowed to do so under international law.

Last week, Secretary General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance Movement Seyed Hassan Nasrallah said Washington uses campaign against ISIL as a pretext to sow division in the region.

“After the IS(IL) seized control of Mosul and started threatening the rest of the provinces and the region, a US-led international coalition was formed to fight it. Back then we said that the US is not serious in fighting the IS(IL) and that it would utilize the threat of the IS(IL) in the region to realize its own scheme for the region. We said that the US has a scheme to fragment these regions on sectarian and ethnic basis — Arabs, Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites,” Nasrallah added.

Nowadays, the Americans have revealed their true intentions through their attempt to bestow legitimacy on the fragmentation of Iraq, and this is what the US Congress is trying to do, he noted.

The draft of a US annual defense bill, which was released on April 27 by the House Armed Services Committee, urges the US government to recognize separate Kurdish and Sunni states and provide them with at least 25 percent of the USD-715-million aid money allegedly planned to be given to the Iraqi government to help it fight the ISIL terrorist group.

The draft bill also says the figure could even amount to 60 percent of the money, about USD 429 million.

The bill mandates that “the Kurdish Peshmerga, the Sunni tribal security forces with a national security mission, and the Iraqi Sunni National Guard be deemed a country,” adding that doing so “would allow these security forces to directly receive assistance from the United States”.
