Islamic Jihad welcomes Hamas, Fatah unity: Spokesman

Islamic Jihad welcomes Hamas, Fatah unityThe Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement supports the reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah if it prioritizes resistance and liberating Palestine.

According to Press TV, on April 23, Hamas and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which includes Fatah party, reached a reconciliation deal to resolve their differences.
Under the deal, Hamas and Fatah are to form a unity government within five weeks and hold national elections six months later.
Dawoud Shehab, the spokesperson for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, says the movement supports the reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah as long as they don’t give up on the rights of the Palestinian people and continue to support resistance.
Shehab added, “The Islamic Jihad has welcomed the implementation of the national reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah. However, what we are concerned about is that they built a real national unity and a strategy based on resistance as the way to freedom.”
The Islamic Jihad continues to refuse to participate in any parliamentary or presidential elections under the current Palestinian political system, he further said.
