Islamic Republic of Iran arrests two PJAK terrorists

Two members of the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) have been arrested in the town of Makou, says the Public Security Police Chief of West Azarbaijan province.

“Two agents belonging to the PJAK terrorist group, who had hurled a grenade into a gas station in Makou last night, have been apprehended,” IRNA quoted Colonel Kheibar Tiba as saying on Sunday.

The police chief added that the two perpetrators approached the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station on their motorcycle and attacked it with a grenade, saying that the two were identified and arrested within seven hours of the attack.

“The two confessed to their affiliation with the illegal PJAK group in initial interrogations,” Kheibar Tiba said.

The attackers launched the assault on the CNG station at 2 o’clock on Saturday morning. According to the announcement made by authorities no damage was inflicted on the CNG installations in Makou.

Iran has recently deployed 5,000 military forces in the northwest of the country along its common border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

Members of the terrorist PJAK group — an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party — regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country’s western borders with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
