Islamic Republic of Iran Seized the Largest haul of narcotics in SE Iran

Largest amount of narcotic drugs since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran was seized in Kerman province southeast Iran, it was reported Sunday.

A local police commander told reporters that the cargo included some 8,685 kg of opium which was confiscated by security and police officers in Mersad check point.

Based on previous evidence, it seemed that the cargo was smuggled into Iran from Afghanistan in order to be resent to a third country or to another Iranian province, Commander Hossein Chenarian said.

He added that the minimum value of the confiscated drugs was estimated at rls. 130 billion.

According to Commander Chenarian, since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2011), the local police managed to discover and confiscate over 30 tons of various narcotic drugs in Kerman province.
