Islamic Republic of Iran’s Air Defense to deter any threats

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has once again underscored the national air defense’s aptitude to ward off any aerial threats against the Islamic Republic.

Brig. Gen. Vahidi rejected Iran’s vulnerability in aerial warfare and underlined, “The armed forces are also proficient in the skies and our air defense capabilities suffice to defend the country,” Fars news agency reported on Saturday.

“The enemies do not dare make threats [against the Islamic Republic] as they have realized” the futility of such attempts, he further said.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in making various military equipment.

In January, Iran successfully test-fired the mid-range, surface-to-air Hawk missile and the Iranian Defense Ministry delivered new cruise missile systems to the Navy.

On April 16, Iran announced that it has successfully test-fired an air-defense missile system dubbed Sayyad (Hunter)-2.

The newly-tested system is an upgraded version of the Sayyad-1 system with a higher precision, range and defensive power.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Earlier in May, the Iranian defense minister announced that Iran has begun the mass-production of laser-guided anti-chopper missiles, adding that these missiles are capable of “tracking and destroying targets with high-precision.”
