Islamic Revolution Guards Corps drill displayed Iran’s power despite sanctions: Lawmaker

An Iranian lawmaker says the recent military drill by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) displayed the Islamic Republic’s might despite threats and sanctions against the country over the past 33 years.

“The Islamic Revolution has succeeded in building up its power day by day by relying on its indigenous capabilities,” a member of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Mehdi Davatgari said on Saturday.

He added that the IRGC missile drill, entitled the Great Prophet 7, guaranteed Iran’s security based on national capability and strength.

The drill has been staged to maintain the military power of Iran’s Armed Forces against the enemy’s threats and possible attacks and to safeguard the Islamic establishment.

By holding the drill, the Islamic Republic conveyed the message of peace and friendship to its neighboring states and displayed its military and defensive power to counter any threat posed by the enemies, Davatgari pointed out.

The Iranian legislator emphasized that if the enemies intend to take even the slightest measure against Iran, the response by the Iranian nation and Armed Forces will be swift.

The three-day Great Prophet 7 drill started in the central Iranian province of Semnan and wrapped up on Wednesday.

The indigenous Iranian missiles, including Shahab (Meteor) 1, 2, 3, Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Tondar (Lightning), Fateh (Victor) and Zelzal (Quake) as well as Qiam (Uprising) were fired at mock targets during the drill. The IRGC’s fighter jets and drones also hit mock targets successfully.

Over the recent years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly made it clear that its military might is merely based on the nation’s defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries, in particular regional states.
