Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Foils Several Terrorist Plots in Tehran

Commander of the Tehran Corps of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that his forces have thwarted a number of terrorist plots in the Iranian capital city during Nowrouz (new year holidays).

Speaking to FNA, Commander of Mohammad Rasoul Allah Corp General Seyed Mohsen Kazzemeini said that the IRGC intelligence units had long been working on terrorist groups and succeeded in combating them in the best possible way and in due time.

“These individuals (terrorists) had on their agenda plans to carry out explosions, suicide attacks and assassinations in sensitive areas in the capital,” Kazzemeini stressed.

Earlier in April, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari announced that the IRGC had defused an enemy plot hatched to harm Iran’s security during the new year holidays.

Addressing a meeting with IRGC commanders and officials, Jafari praised the highly positive and effective performance of IRGC commanders and rank and file in the previous Iranian year (March 2011-March 2012).

“Defusing a major plot of the enemies who intended to stage some operations in the New Year holidays was amongst the most prominent measures taken by the IRGC,” he said.

The IRGC dismantled a “terrorist group” and killed one of its members late in March.
