Israel rearrests Palestinian official

Israel has detained senior Palestinian lawmaker Mohammed Abu Tair just hours after releasing him from jail, the Palestinian news agency Ma’an (MNA) says.

Abu Tair was also given a deportation notice on Thursday to leave East al-Quds (Jerusalem) before June 20, Ma’an reported.

Tel Aviv has not provided any reason for the detention of this senior member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Mohammed Abu Tair was finally freed on May 20 after spending four years in Israeli jails.

In 2006, Israel arrested Abu Tair along with more than 60 other members of the Hamas movement.

They were charged with involvement in the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

During his short release from prison, Abu Tair said his release had nothing to do with any prisoner swap between Israel and Hamas.
