The Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan says Israel is behind the orchestration of anti-Iranian forums in Iran’s northwestern neighboring country, adding that Tel Aviv seeks to disrupt Tehran-Baku ties.

“Instead of seeking to disrupt Tehran-Baku ties, the Zionist regime (Israel) should put an end to the killing of children and youths in Gaza and return the [occupied] Palestinian land to its original owners,” Director of the Media Section of the Iranian Embassy in Baku Seyyed Mohammad Ayatollahi said on Sunday.

The Iranian diplomat said the Israeli regime has made a policy of seeking to ruin bilateral relations between Iran and Azerbaijan. “The [Israeli] regime’s embassy in Baku is the main organizer of anti-Iran meetings.”

Fortunately, Ayatollahi added, the Azeri officials are aware of Israeli policies and with their timely reactions they have at different junctures foiled Tel Aviv’s efforts to damage Tehran-Baku relations.

The conference of the separatist and anti-Iran South Azerbaijan National Liberation Movement in the Republic of Azerbaijan was held in Baku on March 30. The anti-Iran elements participating in the forum support the secession of Iran’s East and West Azerbaijan Provinces from the Islamic Republic.

On March 31, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Azeri envoy to Tehran in protest at the forum and voiced Tehran’s strong objection over the Azeri government’s failure to stop the event.
