An Iranian parliamentarian says the brutal Israeli military aggression against Gaza revealed the Tel Aviv regime’s superficial power.

On Monday, Iran’s Majlis Director General for International Affairs Hossein Sheikholeslam said Palestinian resistance fighters achieved a major victory by inflicting heavy losses on Israeli forces.

The Iranian official also said that the Israeli regime has committed “unprecedented massacre” in its raids on the blockaded Gaza Strip, adding that Palestinians put on display a unique example of resistance in the face of Tel Aviv’s superficial power.

He further highlighted the issue of Israeli attacks on hospitals, UN-run schools, the Gaza water supply system and the sole power plant in the strip, saying the resistance of Gazans against the assaults revealed Tel Aviv’s evil illusion to take over the Palestinian city in a few days.

Despite large-scale ground attacks and their heavy cost for Tel Aviv, the Israeli regime did not even manage to reach its short-term objectives during the military aggression, added the Iranian parliament official.

More than 1,940 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have lost their lives and nearly 10,000 have been wounded since the Israeli military unleashed fatal assaults on the densely-inhabited strip on July 8.

Latest estimates show that nearly 470 Palestinian children have been killed in the attacks. Children also make up almost one-third of the injured.

The Israeli military says around 65 Israelis have died in the conflict, but the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas puts the number at more than 150.

A 72-hour ceasefire took effect at 2100 GMT on Sunday, following an agreement made after indirect talks between representatives from Hamas and Israel in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
