Israel Worried as “Reality in ME Changed”

Israeli officials have revealed their concern over the occupying entity’s regional situation as well as its effective stance in the General Assembly; especially after the Nakba (catastrophe) day events and the imminence of September’s UN declaration of a Palestinian state.

Reporting the talks that took place Monday at a session for the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Haaretz quoted Former Zionist envoy to the UN Gabriela Shalev saying that its entity’s current status at the international organization is at an all-time low.

Shalev assured thatIsrael has no chance of dealing with the Palestinian move in the General Assembly”, referring to the UN’s expected voting on the declaration of a Palestinian state in September”.

On his part, former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy said that Israel’s maneuvering space is growing narrower, while the Quartet’s (US, Russia, UN and European Union) ability to affect peace talks is diminishing, the Israeli paper added.

In parallel, the committee chairman Shaul Mofaz warned that “Sunday’s Nakba Day clashes are a precursor to the events expected in September”.

Israel’s government is hiding its head in the sand”, he said, indicating that “Israel should not have waited for Sunday’s events to understand that the reality in the Middle East has changed”.
