Israeli planes violate Lebanon airspace

Israeli war planes have penetrated Lebanese airspace again and hovered over parts of the Arab country in flagrant violation of UN Security Council measures.

According to a statement, issued by the Lebanese military through the National News Agency, an Israeli reconnaissance plane was observed patrolling the skies above Alma al-Shaab — a town in the middle part of southern Lebanon — Sunday morning.

The Israeli spy aircraft left the Lebanese airspace at 12:10 p.m. local time (0910 GMT) after flying over Rmeish village.

The Lebanese military also declared that four Israeli warplanes crossed into Lebanese airspace on Sunday at 8:50 a.m. local time (0550 GMT) and hovered over Chekka coastal town in the north of Lebanon, Beirut and the eastern town of Baalbek — situated approximately 86 km (54 miles) northeast of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Moreover, two Israeli jets entered the Lebanese airspace over the southern border village of Kfar Kila at 9:45 a.m. (0645 GMT) and left two hours.

Beirut complained to the United Nations in 2009 over the Israeli activity over its southern territory. UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which brokered a cease-fire to a 2006 conflict between Beirut and Tel Aviv, calls on Israel to respect Lebanese sovereignty.
