Israel’s miscalculation will lead to its annihilation: Iran MP

A senior Iranian lawmaker has downplayed the Israeli regime’s warmongering rhetoric against the country, warning that Tel Aviv’s miscalculation of attacking Iran will lead to Israel’s annihilation.

“If the Zionist regime (Israel) makes a miscalculation, it will receive a response that will amount to its annihilation,” Chairman of Iran’s Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday.

He denounced as “saber-rattling and psychological warfare” the Israeli warmongering remarks against Iran and added that Tel Aviv makes such threats to “forget the memories of its defeats” during its four wars against Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military chief repeated the military threats against Iran, saying the regime can invade Iran on its own.

“We have our plans and forecasts… If the time comes we’ll decide” on whether to take military action against Iran, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz said.

The Iranian legislator said such remarks have no value, adding, “The army of the Zionist regime, which failed to achieve a victory in the eight-day war, the 33-day war, the 22-day war and the war [on Lebanon in] 2000, is, for all practical purposes, a defeated army.”

On Thursday, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran would respond to any potential military aggression by the Tel Aviv regime in the shortest possible time.

The US, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the Israeli regime repeatedly threatening to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities based on the unfounded allegation.

Iran rejects the allegation and argues that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has every right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
