Israel’s plan to subvert Tehran-Baku ties

Yeni Azerbaijan daily newspaper, affiliated to Azerbaijan ruling party, entitled “Reuter’s report Reveals Israeli footprint,” criticized Western mercenary policies.

“some world media has given in to politics in their covering events, and has acted as a tool for pressure groups,” the report said.

“For example, world media covered Syrian developments, but kept a blind eye on killing of Muslims in Burma,” the report added.

The report also called Reuters’ position in reporting Azerbaijan-Israel cooperation as threat to Iran as politically motivated.

“Claim of Azerbaijan-Israel cooperation on Israeli possible strike on Iran is totally baseless and a product of imagination,” said the report.

The report stressed that Reuters’ report has not cited any source for its claim, was a political recommendation, fitting to no code of ethics. “Republic of Azerbaijan has clear positions in the issue and Azeri officials have announced several times that the country would not permit deployment of any foreign military base in its soil, nor it would let its territory be used for military strike against Iran,” the report went on to say, “since Iran and Azerbaijan are two friends, with deep historical bonds.”

Azadliq daily has examined Reuters’ biased report, and cited analysis by Elxan Şahinoğlu, the head of Atlas Studies Center. “ this is not the first time that reports are published on Azerbaijan’s cooperation with Israel in attacking Iran, and $1.5bn weapons contract between Azerbaijan and Israel, while Azerbaijan would never stand with Israel in any strike against Iran,” said Şahinoğlu, “ since it is against Azerbaijan’s national security.”

He believed that Israeli hands were behind the report. “This policy by Israel pushes Azerbaijan to edge, straining Azerbaijan relations with Iran,” he added, recommending Azerbaijan “to be cautious in dealing with Israel, since Israeli footprints can be seen in Reuters’ report.
