It fears Hezbollah’s rockets

“Al-Akhbar” newspaper said that the city of “Acre” and the settlements surrounding it, witness semi-continuous demonstrations and popular sit-ins, against the setting up of facilities to extract the natural gas from the recently discovered fields in the eastern Mediterranean.
According to Israeli media, residents fear the environmental damage left behind by the facilities, and targeting it in case of war with the “Hezbollah”, which endangers their lives. “We would be vulnerable to “Hezbollah’s and Syria’s missiles in case of war, which leave the population under high security risks.”

The first channel on Israeli television (06/09/2011), and broadcasted a long report about the protests and the efforts of the city’s citizens to prevent the establishment of the project in their area. It quoted of Tomer Rona, one activist in “the struggle against gas facilities,” saying that the Secretary General of Hezbollah, “Nasrallah threatened that he will attack us if we extracted the gas, and claims that its property back to Lebanon. In fact, we are establishing here a strategic goal, and telling him come on fire your missiles on it”.

Member of the Municipal Council of Acre, Ahmed Odeh, stresses on the citizens solidarity of all the categories against the project, and says that “most of the population of Jews and Arabs opposed the project, in the belief that our city deserves better, and our children deserve the best in the world. If we demand the establishment of apartments, halls and hotels, we certainly reject the establishment of a gas plant in our city. ”
