Jordanians hold pro-reform protest rallies

Jordanians have once again staged protest rallies across the Arab country, calling for political and economic reforms.

The pro-reform demonstrations took place in several cities including the capital Amman on Friday.

Protesters demanded freedom and justice, and condemned corruption, which they say is hindering reforms.

They also rejected the recent amendments to the country’s electoral law, calling on people to push for their demands.

Jordanians have been holding street protests since January 2011, demanding political reforms, including the election of the prime minister by popular vote and an end to corruption.

Since the beginning of protest rallies, Jordanian ruler King Abdullah II has sacked two prime ministers in a bid to avoid more protests.

The king has also amended 42 articles in the 60-year-old constitution, giving parliament a stronger role in decision-making but the changes have failed to convince people.
