The Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base (KAAB) has said the base exploits all capacities and possibilities to secure airspace as crucial to effective defense.

Brig. Gen. Farzad Esmaili who was talking to reporters on Tuesday Defense Session, told reporters that an important mission of the KAAB was provision of an integrated defense of Islamic Republic of Iran’s airspace, and that the airbase actually “identifies threats and prepares timely response to face the threats.”

“Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base will exploit every possibility to secure the totality of the system; the air defense base usually and permanently covers deep space away from borders which indicates our control over air space of over 15 neighboring countries,” he told reporters.

“The inherent mission of the airbase entails possession of necessary equipment and surveillance facilities including distance radar or electronic interception of phone and communication lines to detect threats early; to rule out possibility of surprise threats, the airbase uses different methods, relying on indigenous radar and interception facilities and technologies,” Esmaili said. “In the past, our radar system had been fixed in a given spectrum of frequencies which lacked flexibility and maneuvering power; now however, we enjoy dynamic radar and air defense system which watch and detect foreign aerial objects in wide range of frequencies and makes the whole system capable of entering in possible electronic battle effectively.”
