Kenya forces repel Shabaab militants’ attack

Kenyan security forces have thwarted a raid on a village in northeastern Kenya by militants with the al-Qaeda-linked Somali terrorist group, al-Shabaab.

Kenya’s Interior Ministry reported the terrorist attack on Friday. “Security forces on Thursday evening thwarted an attempted attack at Yumbis village,” said ministry spokesman Mwenda Njoka.

“Security forces swiftly mobilized and engaged the militants in a gun battle, no casualties were reported,” noted the official.

The village is situated close to the common border with Somalia, and some 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of the regional capital Garissa.
