Khorramshahr hub of divine thoughts

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has described Khuzestan Province in south of the country as the hub of ‘revolutionary culture’ and ‘pure divine thoughts’.

He made the remarks in the provincial city of Khorramshahr on Monday, May 24, marking the day, 28 years ago, when the port city was liberated by Iranian forces from Iraqi occupation.

“Khuzestan is the cradle of faithful, eminent and history-making men and women, and Khorramshahr is the focal point where the Iranian nation’s perseverance, bravery and zeal are crystallized”.

The president called Khorramshahr’s liberation a landmark event not only in the history of the Iranian nation, but in human history.

President Ahmadinejad further characterized Khorramshahr as a stronghold against colonialism, global arrogance and ‘all aggressors’.

The former Iraqi regime occupied Khorramshahr in the opening weeks of its war against Iran in 1980.

Iranian forces launched a massive operation code-named Beit-ul-Moqaddas on April 30, 1982 to wrest the city from the clutches of Iraqi troops.

During the operation, the Iranian troops liberated 5038 sq km of occupied Iranian territory.

The liberation of Khorramshahr is regarded as a watershed in the eight-year Iraqi imposed war against Iran in the 80’s.
