Authorities in Kosovo have turned off water supply in the capital following the arrest of five suspects linked to the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group over an alleged plot to poison a reservoir.

Pristina’s water authority said the water treatment facility at Badovc Lake, which supplied 40 percent of the capital with drinking water, was cut early on Saturday due to “security issues” to allow checks for possible contamination.

“We are checking the quality of the water and we will not restart until the tests say the water is clean,” said Arjeta Mjeku, the spokeswoman for the Water Supply Company Prishtina.

The development came after police officers detained three men behaving suspiciously near Badovac Lake.

The cars of the suspects were found to contain ammunition, weapons and some materials pertaining to the ISIL, according to local media reports.

A police source, whose name was not released in reports, said two of the suspects had been arrested in 2014 on suspicion of travelling to Syria.

Later on Saturday, two more people were arrested separately on charges of terrorism in Kosovo.

Security officials say over 200 Kosovans have traveled to Syria and Iraq to fight alongside terrorist groups operating in the two countries.

The ISIL terrorists currently control parts of eastern Syria and Iraq’s northern and western regions.

This is while the Western governments have contributed to the rise of ISIL by sponsoring the militants fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria since 2011.
