Kuwait seeks to import Iran’s natural gas

Kuwait’s Oil Minister Ali Saleh al-Omair has announced that his country is looking to sign an agreement with the Islamic Republic to secure much-needed natural gas supplies.
“Iran has large quantities of gas and Kuwait is in need of Iranian gas through cooperation between the two countries,” the state news agency KUNA quoted al-Omair.
Iran sealed a preliminary agreement to export gas to the Persian Gulf state of Oman in March, after an agreement dating back to 2005 was revived during a visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to the capital Muscat.
The minister’s comments came late on Sunday on the sidelines of a visit by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah to Iran. Sheikh Sabah’s visit came at the invitation of President Rouhani.
Following the historic visit by Kuwait’s Emir to Iran, the two countries signed six agreements to strengthen cooperation in the fields of transportation, security, customs, sports, tourism and the environment.
The agreements were inked in the presence of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah in Tehran on Sunday after the two sides held talks at Saadabad cultural and historical complex.
