UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi emphasized Iran’s constructive role in settling the Syrian crisis.
During the phone conversation on Wednesday evening, Salehi and Brahimi discussed the latest developments in Syria and the need for finding a political solution to the crisis in that Arab country.

They also called on all parties to support finding a political solution as the only way to settle the prolonged unrests in Syria.

Salehi also praised Brahimi’s efforts to end the Syrian crisis and invited him for a visit to Tehran for further talks on the Syrian unrest.

Brahimi, for his part, appreciated Tehran’s positive role to help find a solution for Syrian crisis and praised its active participation in different conferences held on Syria inside and outside Iran.

He also appreciated Salehi’s invitation to Iran, stressing willingness to make the visit in a near future.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and civilians being reported across the country.

Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
