Larijani Felicitates Egyptian Parliament on Inauguration

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a letter to his Egyptian counterpart Mohammed Saad al-Katatni felicitated him and his colleagues on the inauguration of the country’s parliament.

“I congratulate you on your election as speaker,” Larijani said in his letter.

Undoubtedly, the inauguration of the parliament is a significant step towards materializing public demand for the establishment of a regime based on Islamic tenets.

Given the main role of parliamentary cooperation in the development of the two countries’ brotherly ties, Iran’s parliament is ready to help promote parliamentary collaboration, Larijani said.

He also hoped that brotherly ties in all fields will expand, and wished for dignity and success for the Egyptian nation and government.

Egypt’s first post-revolution parliament convened for the first time on January 23, two days before the first anniversary of the start of the revolution which led to the downfall of former ruler Hosni Mubarak.

During the marathon parliamentary elections, held during a three-stage process beginning in November 2011, Egypt’s two main Islamic parties secured over three quarters of the 498 seats.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) secured the biggest share of seats (47.18) in the parliament while the Islamic al-Nour party finished second with 29 percent of the total.
