Larijani: Iran, Syria lie in single strategic path

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Syrian Prime Minister, Imad Khamis, in Tehran on Wednesday.

In the meeting, Larijani congratulated the recent victories of Syrian government and nation in Aleppo and said the victories prove that Syrian nation is capable enough.

The Islamic Republic of Iran does not oppose negotiations in Kazakhstan but it believes that the interests of Syrian nation and territorial integrity of Syria should be given the priority, he said.

Syrian premier, for his part thanked the Iranian Majlis speaker for congratulating him on Syrian triumph in Aleppo and said the Islamic Republic of Iran always backed Syrian nation and government.

Recent victories in Aleppo had roots in collective contribution of both countries and the victories are also dedicated to Iran, he said.

These victories are indebted to the resistance of Syrian nation, its army and supports of the Islamic Republic of Iran and ‘we are proud of sharing united front of campaign against terrorism,’ he said.

‘We assure you that fight against terrorism as well as dealing with existing challenges to be continued under negotiations with you (Iran),’ he said.

Ceasefire is manifestation of the might of Syrian government, he said.

It is expected that the upcoming talks in Astana helps restore stability and security to Syria, he said.
Damascus attaches importance to expansion of cooperation with Tehran, he underlined.
