Last terrorist bastion in Syria’s Qalamoun recaptured by army

Syrian army forces have recaptured the last militant-held village in the Qalamoun strategic region near capital, Damascus.
Aasal al-Ward was recaptured after militants surrendered to the army forces who have been fighting non-stop to expand the security ring around the capital.
Al-Alam reporter said militants, mostly from al-Qaeda’s al-Nusra front, fled the village as the army entered the area this morning.
The news came a day after Syrian forces recaptured the Christian town of Maaloula in Qalamoun, as well as the villages of Sarkha and Jibbeh.
The capture of Aasal al-Ward is the most recent victory in the army’s ongoing campaign to retake control of the mountainous border region, which began in November.
