Terrorist al-Nusra group launched a counter-attack to recapture the strategic village of Doreen in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountians) after losing this area five days ago to the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

According to sources in eastern Latakia, Jabhat Al-Nusra – in cooperation with Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen – attacked the village from the northeastern axis point; this led to their eventual entry into Doreen from nearby Salma.

Jabhat Al-Nusra was able to take advantage of the small presence of NDF fighters in the northern sector of the village; however, their advance was forestalled and repelled after the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) launched a multitude of airstrikes that targeted the exposed enemy combatants.

The NDF did not remain stagnate; they took advantage of the decrepit Jabhat Al-Nusra defenses, countering from the outskirts of the village-center to force the latter to withdraw their forces northeast towards the town of Salma.

For Jabhat Al-Nusra, the brief offensive turned into disaster, as they lost almost 45 militants, including four enemy combatants identified as “‘Abdel-Wahaab Al-Hameedi” (Libyan), “Marwan Al-Damaam” (Libyan), “‘Abdullah Zareeqi” (Jordanian), and “‘Umar Al-Umeezah” (Egyptian).
