The Syrian Arab Army in cooperation with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Mouqawama Souri (Syrian Resistance) made significant strides in northwestern Latakia, capturing the strategic town of Doreen near the rebel stronghold of Salma.

According to a military source, the operation began on Wednesday, when SAA Special Forces achieved a breakthrough at Tal Doreen (Doreen Hill), capturing many of the Al-Qaeda linked “Al-Nusra Front’s” (Jabhat Al-Nusra) positions en-route to the entrance of the town.

Following the complete capture of Tal Doreen on Thursday morning, the SAA stormed the remaining hills under the Al-Nusra Front’s possession, killing two dozen enemy combatants before declaring the town under their control.

As the SAA and NDF combed through the remaining areas outside of the town, the latter was able to capture Rose Hill (Tal Al-Ward), located in between the city of Salma and Doreen.

The SAA wasted no time advancing towards Salma: a large contingent of soldiers joined the attack on the militants of the Al-Nusra Front entrenched inside this mountainous city near the Idlib border. .

Firefights are ongoing late into the evening at Salma, where the SAA is attempting to take control of the Islamic Center’s neighborhood, as the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) continues to pound the Al-Nusra Front’s positions.
