Latest battle report from Deir Ezzor

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) may not have made any large-scale gains in the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Tuesday, but they did score an important advance near the military airport that leaves the Islamic State (ISIL) forces in serious trouble along the western bank of the Euphrates River.

Led by their elite republican guard forces, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful attack on the key town of Jafra, resulting in a series of intense clashes with the Islamic State throughout the day.

According to a military source in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army entered Jafra on Tuesday afternoon, but they failed to take full control of the town after the Islamic State put-up heavy resistance.

The source added that the Syrian Army is still inside the town and pushing their way towards the Euphrates River in order to cut the Islamic State’s imperative supply line from the Al-Muri’iyah Farms to Saqr Island.

Meanwhile, on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continued their advancement north of Deir Ezzor City, capturing several points around Al-Salihiyah.

As a result of their advance, the Syrian Democratic Forces are now on the outskirts of Deir Ezzor City and could enter the northeastern districts in the coming hours.
