Leader grants clemency to 1,249 Iranian prisoners ahead the 15th of Sha’ban

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has granted clemency to 1,249 prisoners ahead of the birthday of the 12th Shia Imam, Mahdi.

On Saturday, the Leader agreed to a request by Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani to pardon 1,249 prisoners or commute their remaining jail terms.

Imam Mahdi was born the 15th of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the lunar calendar.

Every year numerous festivities are held across the country to mark the revered Imam Mahdi’s birthday, one of Iran’s most important national holidays.
