Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned the Venezuelan people of Washington’s plots to put an end their inspiring resistance against the world powers’ hegemony.

“The US aims to destroy the inspiring resistance of the Venezuelan nation and government through pressuring the country,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Tehran on Monday.

“The wars today are actually a clash of wills and you can resolve problems by resistance, strengthening your will and using your country’s abundant capacities,” he added.

“Today, the policies of the arrogant powers are disturbing man’s life like a big disaster and the only way for independent countries’ progress and victory is resistance and reliance on people,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

He described Iran’s astonishing progress in scientific and technological fields as a valuable experience, and said Tehran is willing to increase the level of cooperation with Caracas as it sees Venezuela’s progress and success as  that of its own.

Maduro, for his part, termed Iran and Venezuela two real friends with sustainable relations, and said, “As you emphasized, we should defeat the enemies by a clash of wills and reliance on people.”

Iran has in recent years expanded friendly ties with Latin America, specially in economic, trade and industrial fields.

Iran’s strong and rapidly growing ties with Latin America, specially with Venezuela, have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
