Leader of Islamic Ummah calls for national cohesion ahead of election

Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called for national cohesion ahead of the June 14 presidential election.
The Leader made the remarks during a meeting with a large number of Iranian students, which was held in Tehran on Wednesday, ahead of the 13th of Aban demonstrations, which commemorate the anniversary of the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979.

The 13th of Aban in the Iranian calendar, which corresponds to November 3 this year, is Iran’s national day of struggle against the global arrogance and the anniversary of university students’ seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979, which was called the Den of Spies. It is also the anniversary of the day the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, was sent into exile by the former shah in 1964.

The U.S. embassy in Tehran was stormed by students on November 4, 1979, but due to the fact that 2012 is a leap year, the 13th of Aban in the Iranian calendar occurs on November 3 this year.

At the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the United States has suffered a defeat in its long confrontation with the strong Iranian nation.

“There is no doubt that the might and global credibility of the United States have declined more than 30-fold over the past 30 years,” the Leader stated.

And the United States’ decline has reduced its influence and led to successive defeats for the U.S. in wars and other important developments in the region, he added.

“All these realities show that the arrogant and self-important U.S. government has suffered a defeat in this long confrontation with the determined, proud, and strong Iranian nation,” he stated.

The Leader also said that the Iranian nation has been successful in its campaign against the arrogant U.S. government.

“The first reason is the fact that the Islamic Revolution of Iran not only did not disappear but also became more powerful, consolidated, glorious, and brilliant,” he noted.

He went on to say that no government in the world is more hated than the U.S. government, adding that if regional governments were brave enough to declare a day of hatred toward the U.S. government, the largest demonstration in history would be held.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader said that the Iranian nation’s struggle against the United States is a continuous effort.

“One of the prerequisites of this great campaign is resistance and reliance on God,” he said, adding that efforts to achieve progress in scientific and economic areas are also necessary to pave the way for achieving victory and prosperity.

In addition, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity and said that disagreements between officials and the involvement of the people in disputes are “detrimental points” that can negatively affect the struggle against the United States.

The Leader also warned officials and the heads of the three branches of government to be vigilant and to refrain from publicizing their disagreements.

“From today to election day, anyone who seeks to take their disagreements to the people and to play on their emotions for the purpose of disagreements is certainly betraying the country,” he stated.
