The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Ummah Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei says the upcoming presidential election in Iran should create a political epic in the country, as enemies are striving hard to decrease people’s turnout through various means and plots.

“The most important matter in the [presidential] election is to create a political epic and the enthusiastic participation of the people in the polls,” the Supreme Leader stated.

“Votes for any candidate of Presidential Election would be confidence votes for Islamic Republic and election’s authenticity,” he stressed.

Addressing a large crowd of people at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum South of Tehran on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the demise of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that enemies wish either a low turnout in the election or sedition to emerge after the election.

Touching on the economic problems in the country and the role of the next president of Iran in this regard, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that “we all hope that the person elected by the nation in the June 14 votes will solve economic problems,” advising the candidates, however, not to make promises they cannot fulfill.

“Those (Presidential Election candidates) who speak with the people today should promise what they are capable of doing and what the people need, and to take advantage of the capacities of the Constitution wisely and cunningly,” he elaborated.

The Leader said the Iranian nation, with its massive turnout, will give a firm and crushing response to the enemies’ plots.

“The enemies intend to turn these elections into threats against the Islamic system, while the elections are great opportunities for the Islamic system,” his eminence added.

On June 14, Iranians will cast their ballots at over 66,000 polling stations across the country, and some 285 polling stations will be set up for Iranian nationals in other countries.

Campaigning for the June 14 presidential election kicked off in Iran on May 22 after the Guardian Council released the list of 8 qualified candidates.

The eight qualified candidates represent a wide range of political streams from Conservatives to Reformers.
