Leader to host Imam Khomeini memorial

Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Opressed People ImamSeyyed Ali Khamenei is hosting a memorial ceremony to mark the honor the 21st anniversary since Imam Khomeini’s passing.

The memorial service with be held on Thursday at the Grand Mosque of Qom, following the evening prayers, a statement released by the office of Imam Ali Khamenei said on Thursday.

Rouhollah Mousavi Khomeini, the charismatic leader of the 1979 Revolution was born in the city of Khomein in 1902, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Fatima Zahra (PBUH), the daughter of the holy Prophet of Islam.

Ten years after leading the uprising that ended the Pahlavi monarchy, Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989.

Iranian newspapers said on Thursday that authorities expect up to two million pilgrims to visit Imam Khomeini’s Shrine on the outskirts of Tehran.
