Lebanese Army seizes a shipment of arms bound for Syria

The Lebanese army has confiscated a large consignment of arms and ammunition destined for the insurgents fighting in Syria.

According to informed sources in Lebanon, various heavy and light weapons were seized on Saturday evening when the army intercepted a pickup truck in a region near the borders with Syria.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that 8 were arrested in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army destroyed five vehicles transporting weapons for insurgents on the main highway between Damascus and Aleppo.

On May 17, Lebanese soldiers also stopped a pickup truck in the village of Joura in the border region of Masharih al-Qaa and found crates of arms destined for the gunmen in Syria.

In late April, the Lebanese navy seized three shipping containers of weapons, which were bound for the gunmen groups, on board a ship that had set sail from a port in Libya.

The cargo contained machine guns, artillery shells, rockets, rocket launchers, and explosives.
