Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri: Whatever Hits Sayyed Nasrallah Hits Me

Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri hailed on Tuesday the latest speech made by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah who made it clear the relationship between Hezbollah and AMAL movement is strong enough to thwart all plots and conspiracies.

Berri told Lebanese daily As-Safir that Sayyed Nasrallah was very accurate in explaining the distribution of roles during the July 2006 war and revealed that there were many big secrets concerning this stage that no one knows except for him and Hezbollah Secretary General.

As-Safir also quoted Berri as saying that former US Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman came up with “booby-trapped conclusions” in his cables that he has sent to Washington. “The main problem with this US diplomat is that he doesn’t understand the nature of the relations that bind me with Sayyed Nasrallah,” Berri noted.
“What Feltman doesn’t know is that Sayyed Nasrallah is as myself. What targets him targets me. Actually, he grew up in AMAL as his brothers are still in AMAL ranks. There are a lot of other things that bring us together at both the personal and human levels. (…) We meet at a joint analysis of all causes, even though our styles differ sometimes.”

“I prevented Jihad of appearing in public during the July war because he resembles (Sayyed) Hasan Nasrallah a lot,” Berri said, referring to Jihad Nasrallah, Hezbollah Secretary General’s brother who’s at the same time a local official in AMAL movement in Beirut’s southern suburb.

Berri said that the last reports from WikiLeaks were “dangerous” and “poisonous,” what required a decisive response from AMAL Movement and Hezbollah. He considered that the challenges facing the relationship between the two parties from time to time motivate them to strongly hold on to it. “Some of the content of the WikiLeaks cables is fabricated,” he told the daily.

The Speaker also said that he advised his political assistant MP Ali Hasan Khalil to write a book on the negotiations that took place during the 2006 war to reach a ceasefire. “Be sure that then we will have another kind of WikiLeaks,” he vowed.
